What is the LTCG tax rate on equity in 2025-26?▼
LTCG on listed equity shares and equity mutual funds is taxed at 12.5% (raised from 10% in Budget 2024) on gains exceeding ₹1.25 lakh per year.
What is STCG on stocks?▼
Short-term capital gains (holding < 12 months) on listed equity is taxed at 20% (raised from 15% in Budget 2024).
How are debt mutual funds taxed?▼
Debt MFs purchased after April 1, 2023 are taxed at your income tax slab rate regardless of holding period. There is no LTCG benefit.
What is the holding period for LTCG on property?▼
Real estate must be held for 24 months or more to qualify as long-term. LTCG is taxed at 12.5% without indexation benefit (post Budget 2024).
Is indexation still available?▼
Budget 2024 removed indexation for most assets. LTCG is now flat 12.5% without indexation for property, gold, and other assets.
